Community Giving

The Farm Credit Services of Mid-America Support for Rural America Program supports hundreds of farm and rural community events throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee. Additionally, staff in our offices are contributors to local events such as county fairs and livestock judging competitions. Created in 2007, Farm Credit Services of Mid-America has contributed more than $1 million to the support of rural agricultural with one-time sponsorships and capital improvements. Additionally, each year, Farm Credit allocates more $1 million to support ongoing programs such as commodity groups, 4-H and FFA – in 2011, that number surpassed $1.6 million!

Requests for Community Stewardship funding

Organizations receiving stewardship funds must be consistent with the values and mission of Farm Credit Services, which includes being in compliance with the Equal Employment Opportunities Act. To be eligible for corporate stewardship contributions, organizations must benefit communities within the Farm Credit service area of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky or Tennessee.

Requests for contributions can be submitted in writing to your local Farm Credit office where the application is completed and forwarded to the corporate office in Louisville. Applicants should be able to demonstrate how contributions can be used for purposes within the stated mission of the organization.

Stewardship Application

2011 Community Projects

In addition to contributing more than $115,000 in Scholarships and supporting hundreds of youth, rural and young farmer groups annually, Farm Credit sponsored special one time programs. Here are some of the programs in which we contributed in 2011.

  • The Kentucky Ag Leadership Program received $55,000 to support their ongoing education program.
  • Million Meals Program which delivers pork meals to regional food banks throughout Indiana received $50,000.
  • Ohio Pork Producers Council received $25,000 to support its Pork Power Program, which delivers pork meals to regional food banks throughout Ohio.
  • Washington State Community College Foundation in Ohio received $10,000 to help pay for remaining on the ag department’s greenhouse construction.
  • 4-H Camp Graham in southwest Ohio received $20,000 to update restroom facilities.
  • 4-H Camp Piedmont in eastern Ohio received $20,000 to help replace their water waste treatment facility.
  • 4-H Camp Palmer, in northwest Ohio (and also serving Indiana) received $20,000 to help build a new cabin and pool.
  • 4-H Camp Ohio in central Ohio received $20,000 to update their recreational area.
  • The Pike County Fairgrounds in Ohio received $5,000 to help with the construction of a goat and sheep barn to be used at regional events in southern Ohio.
  • The Indiana FFA Foundation received $23,000 which will make repairs to the Indiana State FFA Officers’ house located at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar, Indiana.
  • The Ohio State Junior Fair received $21,000 to support youth activities at the state fair. Funds will be used for awards and premiums for youth exhibitors participating in the livestock shows.
  • The Tennessee FFA received $100,000 to rebuild 2 cabins on the state campgrounds – Camp Clements.
  • The Farm Animal Care Coalition of Tennessee (FACCT) received $50,000 to act as an advocate for the farm industry and to provide training and information regarding farm animal welfare.
  • Indiana’s Family of Farmers received $50,000 to support consumer education programs in 2012.
  • The Animals for Life Foundation received $50,000 to support consumer education programs in 2012.
  • Ohio Farm Bureau’s AgriPower Program received $4,500 to support its educational program.
  • MTSU’s School of AgriBusiness received $15,000 to support an alternative fuels program.
  • The Ohio State University’s Extension program received a $10,000 grant to support a state-wide online training program which will occur in 2012.

Mission Statement

Farm Credit Services of Mid-America will provide funding to agricultural programs and educational efforts, giving priority to youth and young farmers, in order to contribute to the long term success of agriculture, demonstrate the value of our cooperative to our member-owners and support our vision of being the lender and employer of choice. In addition, we will challenge and encourage our employees to be personally involved in funded programs.
