Farm Credit Announces Winners of Scholarship Program

LOUISVILLE, KY (July 23, 2012) – Forty-six students from Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee have earned scholarships awarded by agriculture lender Farm Credit Mid-America. The recipients, who received scholarships valued at $1,000 and $1,500, are being honored during Farm Credit’s annual Customer Appreciation Events which started in mid-June and run through mid-September.

“We are proud to welcome these scholars to the Farm Credit family. They represent the best of the best in terms of academic record and leadership qualities as well as community and school involvement,” said George Stebbins, chair of the board of directors. “Even more gratifying is the passion they exhibit for agriculture. In reading their stories, there’s a common thread.  From growing up beside their dad working on the farm, to their young start in 4-H involvement, they want– and have every reason – to make agriculture stronger and better than ever. I’m proud that Farm Credit can be a part of their journey.”

Farm Credit scholarships are offered to students of customer-members of Farm Credit Mid-America serving more than 95,000 customers throughout the four-state territory. In addition to the students honored through Farm Credit’s scholarship program, the financial lending cooperative also awards more than $60,000 in scholarships through land grant universities and the state offices of the 4-H and FFA. In total, Farm Credit contributes more than $120,000 annually to educational endeavors at the college level.

Additional information about this year’s scholarship recipients can be found online at www.e-farmcredit.com – click on Community, then Scholarships.  Information about the 2013 Scholarship program will also be available on the Farm Credit website in the fall.
